Sille is a small Turkish village, near the town of Konya.
Sille Subaşı was one of the few villages where the Cappadocian Greek language was spoken until 1922. It was
inhabited by Greeks who had been living there in peaceful coexistence with the nearby Tur ks of Konya for over 800
years.
The reason for this peaceful coexistence was Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi, who was the witness of a miracle that
happened at the nearby Orthodox Christianmonastery of Saint Chariton. In the Turkish language the monastery is
now called Akmanastir and is translated as, "White Monastery". Jalal al-Din Rumi constructed a small mosque inside
the Saint Chariton monastery;.
[1] It is also notable that Jalal al-Din Rumi wrote Greek poems using the Arabic-Turkish
scripting,
[2] which is why the Greek Sille villagers wrote Turkish using the Greek alphabet scripting. This form of
writing spread across the region and was commonly known as Karamanli Turkish writing.
In the population exchanges between Greece and Turkey (1923), Turkey and Greece decided to exchange population
based on religion. After 1924, all Greek population had left the village

Çatalhöyük, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Since the 1960s, excavations have
uncovered a densely packed Neolithic (New Stone Age) settlement which dates back 9000 years. At a time
when most of the world's people were wandering hunter-gatherers, as many as 10,000 people lived at
Çatalhöyük.
Today all that is visible on the surface of Çatalhöyük is two mounds: the smaller and more recent to the
west of the site and the larger and more ancient to the east. However, scratch beneath the surface and the
remnants of one of the most complicated societies of its time are revealed! A team of experts from around
the world are currently working together to understand the lives of the people who lived here.

Eşrefoğlu Mosque is the only wooden mosque where several decorative techniques of stone, brick,
ceramics and painting were used together.
It is still a mystery how the wooden portions of the mosque, built in 1299, lasted until today without decay
Eşrefoğlu Mosque, built in 1299 in the Beyşehir district of the central Anatolian province of Konya, is an
architectural mystery.
How the wooden parts of the mosque survived until today without decay has baffled scientists. The seven-
century-old mosque has a special place in Turkish architecture since it is the only wooden mosque where
several decorative techniques of stone, brick, ceramics and painting were used together. (Unesco World

The settlement in Kilistra is believed to be established first during the Hellenistik and Roman Times (BC the
2nd century – AD the 3rd century) according to result of the archaeological works.
During the excavation the name “Kilistra” was found inscribed on a Roman epitaph from the eastern grave
being used as a threshhold stone. Kilistra, during the Byzantine age (BC the 8th century – AD the 13th
century), also appears to have a rock-carved settlement similar to the ones in Cappadocia. Lystra, one of
the Anatolian cities, is one the way between Ikonion (Konya) and Pisda Antiocheia (Yalvaç). It is on the
famous King’s Road. St. Paulos, whose name is mentioned in the Bible, is believed to have stopped by on
his journey.
