Hikers - Picketwire Canyon, Dinosaur Tracks, and Vogel
If you travel South of La Junta about 12 miles on Hwy 109 you'll enter Commanche National Grasslands and the trailheads for Vogel and Picketwire Canyons. Vogel is closer to the highway and has shorter hiking options. Picketwire is farther but has the countries largest dinosaur track site and the ruins of an old Spanish mission and cemetery. We recommend going when it's cooler weather and bring lots of water. There are a few shady spots to rest but otherwise, you'll be soaking(or baking) in the sun for hours at a time.

Seasonal Farmers' Markets (Jul-Sep)
La Junta and Rocky Ford grow some of the best cantaloupes, watermelon, chilis, tomatoes, and squash. If you're here in the hot summer months, visit one of the many local markets. We really love Knapps and Hannagan's but the others are great as well.
