Hatcher Pass’s closest trail is 7 minutes away! There are dozens of options, but Emily and My favorite spot is Summit Lake where we did our anniversary photos.

The Butte was the first trail we did and was told it is one of the most popular. You find out quickly that every trail in Alaska with a view is going to be difficult LOL. This is a quick one if you have a couple hours in the day.

From the house, it takes 20 minutes to get to the start of the Eklutna road, and another 20 minutes to get to the lake. You will lose signal once you hit the road! This is a very well known spot to visit and has beautiful views summer and winter. My recommendation is to do the twin peaks hike! It has an amazing view on clear days

With a little drive north, you can see something Alaska is known for. Take a fun guided tour down to the glacier front and explore the ice caves. Make sure to bring cash for gratuity, and warm clothes for the snow mobile ride out! Military discounts are available.

Food scene

Very big serving sizes and pizzas! One location in Palmer, and a drive through location in Wasilla. (Remember which one you order from, we were confused our first time)
Italian fine dining with an amazing menu that includes a nice wine selection. Our favorite is the Seafood Au Gratin (ask for less spice if needed)! Sometimes there is a live pianist for a classy touch.

Lively social spot of town that can quickly get packed, so plan ahead! Great bar and food selection with frequent live bands.

Great spot for sushi fans. They have giant rolls that you can’t find anywhere else. A great choice is the Zushi Fire Roll that they set aflame right on your table! 🔥

Country Bar

A hole in the wall spot for a good time. This bar is equipped with a dance floor and the opportunity for line dancing and swing! My wife and I enjoy this spot because it reminds us of our college days in Kansas! If you show up at 5pm on Friday’s, you can pay $5 for line dancing instruction! Live bands too!

Winter time

Before you travel, make sure you check the weather! These parts of Alaska can range from wet, to cold, to colder. When hiking, also remember that you will be much warmer once you start going, so wear layers! We typically have a thing long sleeve, a hoodie or waffle top sweater, and a coat that almost always comes off. DRINK WATER. Even though you might be cold, your body needs a lot of water to keep up with your shivering.
