Awarded "America's Coolest Small Town" Grand Marais is a true gem along the North Shore. Just 17 miles north on HWY 61 of our home, located directly on the shore of Lake Superior, Grand Marais is the perfect place to do some shopping or grab a bite to eat.

Less than 10 minutes north of Ham's Haus, Cascade River State Park offers spectacular waterfalls in the heart of the North Shore country. Hike up the hills of birch and spruce forests for scenic overlooks of Lake Superior. 18 miles of hiking trails; 17 miles cross-country ski trails, connecting to a network of 196 km of North Shore trails. 2 miles snowmobile trails.

A must-do in Lutsen is to ride the Gondola up to the top of the Lutsen mountains! Less than 10 minutes from our home, this unique experience will give you panoramic Lake Superior and mountain views.
Additionally, the Alpine Slide during the summer in the Lutsen Mountains is the perfect activity for the whole family to enjoy.

Gunflint Trail
Gunflint Trail2.0-mile out-and-back trail just north of Grand Marais. Considered a moderately challenging route, it takes about an hour to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, camping, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Devil’s Kettle Falls
2.0-mile out-and-back trail just north of Grand Marais. Considered a moderately challenging route, it takes about an hour to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, camping, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
