We like Plaza South because it's fairly close, it's a family run business (we've been seeing the same friendly faces for 25 years), the food is tasty & the drinks are good. Our standby: green Chile chicken enchiladas & the Silver Coin margarita. Runner up: huevos rancheros. Good for burgers, as well. Has a patio option.

What can we say, a Santa Fe tradition. Lines can get a bit long during peak times, but it's worth the wait.

A top spot for New Mexican food in Santa Fe. Tourists eat downtown at The Shed, its sister location. But locals eat at La Choza. Might be a long wait, but it's worth it.

Of course it always depends on the bartender, but we've found the bar at Inn of the Anasazi to have consistently great margaritas. Sipping them on the patio is a treat. There's a very good bar menu as well.

When and if you tire of green chile and tortillas, try this West African restaurant. It's always packed with locals partaking of some of the best non-Spanish ethnic food to be found in The City Different. We've never had a mediocre meal there.

Hiking Recommendations
Santa Fe is a hiking paradise. There's a hiking book in the house with details. Here are a few of our faves. Google for directions or go to AllTrails.com
-Chamisa Trail: Moderate difficulty 3-mile loop (option to go farther). Avoid it in the winter, as parts of trail can get icy. Off ski basin road.
-Borrego Trail: Moderate 5-mile trek. Shaded, so if it's hot, this is a good one. Hike to the river. Off ski basin road.
-Atalaya Peak trail: 6.2 miles round trip to the peak with a 1,797- ft. elevation gain. Beautiful views overlooking Santa Fe & landscape to the south & west.
