Wander around the Neuenheim area and enjoy the views of Art Nouveau villas.
Additionally, this area is known for Neckarwiese where many locals gather (see ‘Neckarwiese’ in ‘Parks’). Other very small park which is nice and calm is Werderplatz, good stop for the break.
Philosophenweg (Philosopher’s way) starts from this area too.
Here you’ll also find the market on Saturday morning.
Shops & cafés that I recommend:
Butcher: Metzgerei Blatt

Spanish product shop: José
Cafés: Café Moro and Chocami
Bakeries: Der Mahlzahn Vollkornbäckerei and La Flamm

This is working and studying neighbourhood that consists of a massive technological park, start-ups and university buildings. If you’re coming for work/studying you’re likely to end up there.
Things to do in this vast area:
- Cross the small pedestrian bridge Wehrsteg Wieblingen and walk along the Neckar;
- Visit a zoo;
- Get an Italian espresso at Bellini (just for coffee!);
- If you’re into the bubble tea, JIUMEI China Restaurant does a decent one;
- If you have a Heidelberg University student or employee card, Café Botanik is the local uni cafeteria;
- Get a plant from Botanical garden (see ‘City tips’);
- Buy fresh local vegetables from Gemüsestand at the north of the Neuenheimer Feld (only available during warmer months)

Sightseeing
A touristic but still nice promenade where philosophers, like Goethe, were walking while sightseeing in Heidelberg. Requires minimal level of physical activity where you need to climb a small hill.

Not the first thing you’ll think about but many locals have been at least once. This is a small zoo, featuring flamingoes, a couple of bears and other exotic animals for someone who likes zoos. Busy on weekends.

A convenient cinema that shows recent movies, set in a comfortable large space.
On a budget: a bit expensive, but there are student discounts; also it is cheaper to buy tickets directly in the cinema than online.

How to save: Heidelberg castle
- walk up, don’t use the funicular; - don’t pay for the entry to the castle, it’s not so worth it and most of it you can see from outside
