Neighborhood rustic Italian in North Beacon Hill with Neapolitan style pizza (very smoky crust). No reservations, but get there before 7pm on a weeknight and early on a weekend and you’ll be fine. Otherwise expect long waits.

Semi-secret amazing little place! Vegetarian, freshly-prepared Indian food that tastes like Indian home-cooking (trust me, I’ve tasted my mother-in-law’s food many times). Not too heavy, but flavorful. Lines get long on weekends and service is generally slow but warm.

Many people claim this is the best pho in Seattle because they make their own fresh rice noodles daily. I think their noodles are good but it’s not my favorite. Still good though!

Over 100 years old, the oldest continuously operating Japanese restaurant in Seattle. Homestyle food with reasonable prices. Appetizers are particularly good and the sushi is decent although not the main reason to go. Best to reserve ahead of time even for weekdays as it gets quite crowded. If you’re a medium/large size group, ask for the tatami rooms.

One of our favorites in Seattle with medium roast beans and delicious house-made pastries. Drinks on the pricier side, but there are unique coffee "cocktails" - their pistachio matcha is amazing!

Some say the best pasta in the city. Made fresh every day with different seasonal sauces (always one veg option). The chef/owner won a James Beard award recently. Beware long long lines even on weekdays, so get there at 10:45am (opens at 11am) or earlier…or arrive later.

Another favorite of ours in Seattle. All kinds homestyle Viet food and then a menu of exotic meats like frog, snail, alligator etc. Anthony Bourdain visited for one of his shows. We love the duck egg noodles with herbs, Mi Vit Tiem. Hands down one of best dishes in Seattle. If you're with a group, pre-order the giant deep-fried catfish (~$100).

A just perfect Italian restaurant with fresh housemade pasta and pizza, popular with Montlake locals. Must order the pizzas, and their lemon tart and seasonal sorbets/ice creams are simple but nuanced and done to perfection. Sensitive and efficient service. Good for veg. Always book ahead, but you can do it the day of. They also sell their bread, which is excellent, but call ahead to reserve a loaf. It has a sister cafe called Little Lago, which does grocery and sandwiches.

Delicious fries, simply but consistently and well prepared foods such as sandwiches, pork belly, wings. Definitely get the fries, burger, wings, deviled eggs, and the brussels sprouts salad is tasty too. Tu-Fri happy hour 4-6pm for $2-3 off a selection of foods.

One of the better Thai places in the Seattle, with fresh local ingredients but authentic Thai flavors. They have Isaan (northern Thai) dishes that are harder to find in regular Thai restaurants. The lunch deal is the best as they have most of the same menu items but for less.

Our favorite restaurant in Seattle. It's been around doing farm to table (the menu changes daily) before all the other places popped up. Make reservations for the evenings and ask for seating at the bar next to the kitchen. Excellent for lunch, dinner or brunch.
