Although we have this right out our window (minus the alligators typically), it does provide a nice boardwalk to go out into the wetlands to get up close and personal with the wildlife. And tons of info to take back and apply to what you do see out of the condo window!

Wonderful active studio where you can see artists at work and purchase that "just right" piece to take home and support the budding SPI art scene. We have a Carole Plumb painting on display. I loved how I first thought it was a photograph :) They also have classes, check out their website.

1. Stay away in the month of March during spring break. BUT the rest of the year, great food on the deck overlooking the ocean (great stop right after Sea Turtle Inc.), but watch out for the birds when you get your food! A market sets up on weekends on occasion, as well as sandcastle displays. BUT don't miss the tortoise/chicken area under the bridge of the Clayton's sign. Yes, we are partial to shelled creatures. They are easy to miss and sometimes hard to spot unless sunning themselves.

At some point drive North!
Go past SPI civilization and just keep heading north to the dunes. Watch the kiteboarders, ride a horse, zipline, drive on the beach (with an appropriate car!), just sit and watch the waves away from the activities of "the city". Watch for sea turtle nests and report to Sea Turtle Inc. during the spring and summer. Or if you see a Turtle floating or beached in cold winter months. It's a chance to step back and enjoy!

NO GLASS ON BEACH!
Although alcohol is allowed on SPI beaches, glass of any kind IS NOT! And you will be fined, so purchase cans, utilize the plastic containers/cups in the condo. Yes, the irony of plastic at the beach does not escape me, but just don't leave it and use the many garbage cans along the beaches. I also bring a small bag to pick up any plastic/fishing line etc... I may find along the beach when I am walking. It just feels good to help a bit!
