There are also a few historic buildings on the street (be sure to check out Old Scona Academic high school that used to be a university in 1905 and a governor’s house before then!). Take a stroll and click a photo or two with the lighted trees in the background!

St. Albert celebrates a rich history that dates back over 150 years and has often been called Alberta's Finest City. Founded in 1861 by Father Albert Lacombe, St. Albert is the oldest, non-fortified community in Alberta and was the largest agricultural settlement west of Winnipeg. The original settlement was named Saint Albert by Bishop Alexandre-Antonin Taché, OMI after Lacombe's name saint; Saint Albert of Louvain. Although Lacombe had originally intended to found the mission at Lac Ste. Anne, the soil proved infertile and he moved the settlement to what would become St. Albert.
