They do amazing burgers, and there's often a cool local DJ overseeing the dance floor. A bit dingy but we like it that way!

Arts & Culture
Part historical prison-turned-museum, part real-life legal buidling, part-art gallery, this place is a must-see if you're interested in South Africa's rich and troubled history. You can tour the old Women's Gaol, and even see the cell where Nelson Mandela was kept before he was transferred to Robben Island. They offer private tours. It's amazing and tragic and beautiful and you should definitely go! Visit their website for more info: https://www.constitutionhill.org.za/site/

Shopping
This happens every Saturday and the vibe is amazing. A must if you're in South Africa for the first time: touristy trinkets and beautifully hand-crafted souvenirs galore. The first level is a market with fresh food and drinks for sale, and upstairs are local manufacturers of clothing, jewellery and accessories. Grab a brunch cocktail and shop the morning away!

Getting Around
This is where you can catch the Gautrain, which connects Braamfontein to wider Johannesburg. You have to purchase a transit card and load money onto it using the terminals at the station (credit and debit cards accepted). Once you've loaded you card, hop on the trains that arrive every 12 minutes. You'll get off right in the middle of Rosebank or Sandton, which are both great for shopping. This is also how you get to the airport: travel to Sandton and change trains to head to OR Tambo International.

Parks & Nature
Take a lovely stroll through the rose garden or jog around the park (just under 5km all around). There's a huge sloping lawn going down to the dam at the bottom just waiting for a game of ultimate frisbee, and sometimes they hold concerts there, too!
