Sightseeing
Such a fun place to hike and of course see a volcano!
Kīlauea Iki trail has three different distance and difficulty options. (See their website for details and possible closures) Our favorite is the loop from the Kilauea Overlook / Trailhead that descends through a lush rainforest to the solidified lava lake on the floor of Kīlauea Iki crater. The valley floor is a harsh dry landscape and so different from the rainforest. It’s a steep and rocky, descent and then ascent 400 feet (122 m) but such an incredible experience. Along with the hiking basics make sure to take sunscreen and plenty of water.

Hawaii Nautical Whale Watching Tour
Spend the day in Waikoloa and go on a whale watching catamaran. We like to go to the beach before or after the boat ride. You can rent a SUP or just have fun laying on the beach and going in the ocean. There are also a few restaurants in the area.
*The best close up whale watching is in Maui but this is a fun way to see them without the expense of flying to Maui for the day.
