We recommend heading for Dartmoor Prison, Princetown. It’s a lovely drive over the moors ! En route stop in the parking spots when you see the wild ponies . They will approach your car window and ask for food.
Feeding them is strictly forbidden though.
Dartmoor Prison is still a fully functional prison housing dangerous inmates . You can drive around the ouskirts but don’t stop your vehicle. If you spot Frankie Mitchel the mad axeman, a famous escapee, tell him to get back inside as the Kray twins are apparently looking for him.

Brixham is a lovely nearby fishing village with a cute little high street. Beware of the gulls whilst eating your fish and chips. Brixham is a challenging 2 hour walk via the Coastal Path. Easy bus back.

For an extra special evening we highly recommend this place on delightful Paignton harbour. Heather and her team really care about their food and customers and the menu caters for all dietary requirements. Definitely book in advance and ask for a table on the terrace if the weather looks good .

This is the best Thai in the area and it’s a local secret as it’s hidden up a side street away from the tourist areas .

If you like fluorescent orange chips (dipped in batter )served up by a rough and ready family who often shout at customers who happen to be blocking the doorway , then this is the place to go.
This establishment sits on the tourist street known locally as the manic mile which has now been pedestrianised. Visiting Scoffs is not for the faint hearted. It’s best to wait quietly in line , keep your self to your self., collect your food and leave . The only time they’ve ever smiled was when this photo was taken !
