Parks & Nature

A famous surfing spot close to town. Also a lovely place to watch the sunset with a glass of wine and a picnic on a still night. Large carparks and tiered grassy areas make this a wonderful place to visit and view the waves, and the surfers riding them. On almost every day of the week you will find people riding the waves. The beach itself curves around the point with the waves reaching the bottom of the dune stairs with swells at high tide. The River Mouth is also close by to the north, and to the south is a calmer beach which allows dogs. A little further south is Gnarabup Beach with a nice little cafe called the White Elephant. There are walking tracks between all these beaches.

Mammoth Cave is the most easily accessible of all the show caves in the region, with the first chamber actually accessible by wheelchair. It is a self-guided cave, where you explore on your own while listening to an informative 'audio tour' through the MP3 player and headset provided. You are free to wander at your own pace along the boardwalks and platforms, through the majestic chambers of the cave. Mammoth Cave is also one of just a few caves in the south west which contains fossils. A visit to Mammoth Cave finishes with a winding walk through the beautiful marri forest, with whistling birds and stunning flora displays. Mammoth Cave is much more than a cave -

To get to the falls, park at the Moses Road carpark. On your left, you will see toilets and a viewing platform and to the right is the path to the falls. At the start of the path, there are three small wooden posts and some large bushes on either side. As you are walking along keep a lookout for the Cape to Cape Track signs - if you can see them you are going the right way! The path varies from flat and easy to rocky and uneven, there are also few big sand dunes that are a breeze coming down, but physically challenging climbing up. Factor in time to spend exploring the falls and allow yourself enough sunlight to get there and back. Remember to take plenty of water! Once there, the view is breathtaking and well worth the effort. At the start of the walk, you can see and hear the waves crashing against the shore and surfers enjoying the ocean. There is a bridge with a winter stream running underneath it, you then walk out into a red dirt plain before the land dips and weaves and Quinninup Falls appears.

Shopping

The main street is ever changing with it's selection of clothing and gift shops, cafes and restaurants . Wander down the main street, any easy walk from the house, and see if anything takes your fancy. The shops that have remained in Margaret River for as long as I remember, are Lloyds and the 2 surf shops. There has always been a bookshop, and you will find 2 pharmacies in the main street.
Lloyds of Margaret River is reknowned for it's diverse range of home furnishings and giftware, stocking everything from kitchenware, children's toys, clothing, local products and camping equipment. The Margaret River store with an eclectic twist.
