It is an open air museum. You will love to walk the trails, watch the birds and the lake view, and learn about life of the forest community on the island. Most fun of all is to ride one of the historic trains over the Somenos Lake Trestle and relax and enjoy views of the 100-acre museum from the train!

Lake Cowichan is at the western end of the Trans Canada Trail, which, when completed, will be one of the longest trail networks in the world at almost 24,000 kilometres (15,000 mi) length. The Cowichan River flows through the middle of the town. Cowichan River is designated as a Heritage River.
