Fun water stuff

Fun things to do that involve water
413 S. Riverside Drive, Edgewater, FL 32132 Good place to launch into the Indian River, have a picnic, kayak or paddle board. Small beach in low tide. Located just 2 blocks to the East of US-1 in Edgewater, you will drive through a beautiful residential area to get there. There are 2 parking lots: one is the the north side immediately after driving into the park and the other is the main lot directly ahead and near the water. There is an uncovered playground, bathrooms and dock on the north end of the park. The East side has a small (about 10 feet wide) grass and a very small (about 6 feet wide) beach (only at low tide) and the boat ramp. A lot of people bring their kayaks and paddle boards. ( I"ll post about rentals I heard about on this guide.) There is very little shade to speak of for this location so bring an umbrella and make sure you bring bug spray for sundown. It is local and the view is incredible. Enjoy.

New Smyrna Beach is only 20 minutes away. My suggestion is to not go I95 to 44 like the directions take you. Avoid that traffic and take a right out off of Airpark RD and head East to Ridgewood. Make a left and follow the directions from your navigation from there.

Edgewater, Florida is located in Volusia County south of and adjacent to New Smyrna Beach. Edgewater is located along the western shore of the Mosquito Lagoon, which is part of the Indian River Lagoon system. We call it the Indian River. It still holds it old Florida charm and I love the small town feel. Yet there is every convenience close with two shopping centers and so many stores on Ridgewood Ave. Want to see some cows and horses? Keep going straight out of our entrance road north and take some back roads to Glencoe Rd to SR 44. You will see cows and horses and some beautiful country landscape. Traffic in our area is not crazy and the people are so friendly.

Food scene

Great food and live entertainment nightly. You can see the performers and sit in beach chairs and watch the sunset in the outdoor area by the water or eat indoors and be entertained as the music is piped in through out the building. This place is a local hot spot and only 10- 15 minutes from the house.

2100 S Ridgewood Ave, Edgewater, FL 32141 It has an old town diner feel. Nothing fancy for sure but cute and clean. It is open but some web sites still say closed. I thought they were just breakfast and lunch but not sure. I suggest to call and make sure if you are wanting something later in the day. There is nothing fancy about this place but it was good food and good service. Pricing was fair as well.

Take the back roads to the beach

Waze and GPS will take you to I-95 North to SR 44, make a right and head down all the way to the beach. The back way is going via Ridgewood Ave. Leave our house and go to Indian River (SR 442). Make a right (east) to Ridgewood Ave. Turn left. Ridgewood turns into US 1. Take that road to SR 44 and make a right. Go over the bridges to the beach. 44 turns into SR AIA. You avoid all the to from the beach heading to from I-95 or I-4.

Sun fun days advice

The sand is hot at the beach so you will want to bring flip flops or sandals, a hat and an umbrella to shade you. Even if it is overcast you will get sun. You can get your beach essentials locally at Bealls Outlet which is on the way to the beach or Walmart is only 1 exit over off of I-95. If you go into the river or Menard park you will want to wear closed water shoes. Bring bug spray for sundown, an umbrella for shade as there is not a lot of shade. Central Florida is known for its afternoon rain showers. Don't let this discourage you. Check your weather app often.

Traffic tips- Heading to or from Orlando or the airport?

I-95 is best 2 get U south then to the parks. Paid tolls may be worth your time-SR 417 or SR 429 in your GPS- avoid I-4 traffic during peak rush hours. Downtown Orlando and by Disney is the worst. Going I-4 south towards the parks during early morning hours and heading home north between 3 pm & 7 pm is a no no. Tolls will be put to your license plate and mailed to you or billed to your rental car unless you have a Sunpass/EZp. FYI: SR 429 runs north - south on the West side of downtown Orlando to the Disney area SR 417 runs north - south on the East side of downtown Orlando

Beach or water stuff

At this time we do not have beach items for rent. Please bring beach towels, chairs and umbrella. These items can be purchased locally. Try Bealls on Ridgewood Ave and SR 442 or Walmart on SR 44 East of I-95.

Bring a light jacket

Some evenings get cooler in the fall and winter. Depending on where you are from it may be a relief or sweater weather.
