VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK
Not on the west side of the island... BUT you have to visit this once in a lifetime experience to see active lava (Check for conditions). Go whether they have active lava or not it is AMAZING! The tropical scenery, cool caves, great hikes, dining, etc. Also check out the local Volcano winery after your morning of hiking if that's your thing. They also have tea tasting for the kiddos.
