After Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance, Mt Macedon Memorial Cross is considered the most significant war memorial in Victoria. Located on the summit of Mt Macedon, this imposing structure stands 21 metres high and commemorates all those who served in wars and conflicts. It is one of the most poignant locations for Anzac Day dawn commemorations in the country.
Getting to Mt Macedon Memorial Cross
Passing through the village of Mount Macedon, you will wind your way further up the mountain towards the summit. Your final destination is located at the end of Cameron Drive, which includes picnic and BBQ areas. There is also a restaurant called Top of the Range Tearooms that has great views and Devonshire teas.
A short walk along a sealed path from the tearooms takes visitors to the Memorial Cross. Spectacular views south and back towards Melbourne can be enjoyed at several locations en route.
Many visitors enjoy a bushwalk along the trails of Memorial Cross Reserve, so make sure to wear walking shoes and dress for changing weather. Mt Macedon has its own unique micro-climate and the weather conditions can change rapidly.
