The Summit of Mauna Kea is a very special place with its spectacular views, particularly at sunset. To drive there, you need a four wheel drive vehicle. If you don't have one, you can book a tour on one of the local tour companies or have me take you - for a price.
Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world if you measure from its base on the Pacific Ocean floor 33,474 ft (10.203m) and 13,803 ft (4,207m) above sea level.
If you want to view the stars, you can go to the Onezuka Visitors Center at 9,200 ft (2,804m). Several nights a week they have telescopes set up for free stargazing.
