Bennetts Bluff Lookout

A bridge over a canyon that in 1880 pushed design limits - a century later it became the birthplace of bungy. The bridge is mainly used for commercial purposes by the AJ Hackett Bungy Company for bungy jumping - the world's first commercial bungy jumping site. The bridge carries walkers, runners and bikers on the Queenstown Trail over the river.

Starting at the bottom of the Gondola, the Tiki Trail you’ll be climbing through forest with few viewpoints, until the big scenic reveal. The trail crosses mountain bike tracks, so watch out for bikers hurling themselves downhill at high speed.

The distance is 11 km return, it is rated as advanced. The duration is 3-4 hr (return) to Ben Lomond Saddle and 6-8 hrs (return) to Ben Lomond Summit.

The track from the carpark leads down through beech forest and manuka groves to the lakeshore. Listen out for bellbird, tui and kereru (wood pigeon).

Theatrically presented and with a wonderful setting amongst the Otago mountains, you should make this the main event for your day so you can take your time and savour the experience.
