Food Scene

Best terrace in town! Be prepared for a busy crowd when it's sunny. Nice and simple Caribbean style food (try their Asian omelets & home-made ginger beer, it's really good!). Hang out 'till late for drinks and watch the boats go by.

On Saturday there's a good food market here with lots of organic and local foods and goods. Very nice for edible or liquid souvenirs.

Parks & Nature

My favorite park is the Westerpark. Vondelpark is really nice, but it can get way to busy when the sun's out. Westerpark is less of a touristy park with lots of nice chill spots, bars, restaurants (try Mossel & Gin), cafés a bakery... you name it... Once in a while on sunday you can visit the Sunday Market with local goods and food.

Arts & Culture

I think everyone knows about the Rijksmuseum right?! (It is worth it though) But FOAM is my favorite depending on the exhibit (check their website first if they have something nice). If you like modern photography than this is a must see.

Entertainment & Activities

De Hallen are a food court, a series of restaurants, a cinema, shopping area and library in one. There's a nice store dedicated to everything Amsterdam... from booze to perfume to books. Good place to shop for souvenirs.

Getting Around

Here you can take the bus straight to Schiphol airport. If you want to avoid the busy Central Station and the busy trains, and catch your flight in a somewhat relaxed manner, this is a good option. It's takes a little longer than by train but it's right across the street and no transfers(!). Take bus 192 or 197 (Schiphol Sternet). There also cabs available here if you want to travel more comfortably (but they're expensive).
