Really awe inspiring, towering kauri trees. A 350m boardwalk winds through a mature stand of kauri, swamp forest and associated vegetation.
If travelling south on State Highway 10, Puketi Kauri Forest is signposted 2.4 km south of Kaeo.
If driving north on State Highway 10, 1 km north of Waipapa, turn left onto Pungaere Road and follow it for 16 km. At the T-intersection, turn right, follow Waiare Road for about 1 km. There is a carpark on your right; the start of the track is across the road.
The walk can also be reached from State Highway 1. Take the Puketi Road turn, then left into Waiare Road. Follow Waiare Road past the Puketi Forest Headquarters on your left.

Another gorgeous beach off the beaten track. My favourite, actually. Only 10 mins drive from Matouri Bay so you can combine the two in one trip. This is calm, whilst Matouri has more surf.
