An amazing memorial to WW II veterans that rivals anything in Washington, DC. Bedford lost the most men per capita in the D-Day invasion. Plan to spend several hours touring this sacred place.

All that's left of a huge cavern is a breathtakingly tall stone bridge strong enough for the highway on top. A short hike takes you under the bridge and on to a reconstruction of an Indian village. See if you can find George Washington's initials. There is a cafe overlooking the bridge. Caverns and other attractions nearby.

A half day hike on Sharp Top is rewarded by a fantastic view in all directions. There is a bus that takes the less athletically inclined to within 1500' of the summit. The lodge has a pretty good restaurant.

Smith Mountain Lake is great for fishing, boating (sail boats, pontoon boats and speed boats). The Virginia Dare cruise is a fun way to have dinner and have great views of the spectacular homes on the shoreline. There is also a State Park on our side of the lake.
