It is known for its many bars, clubs, pubs, and cafes, concentrated in the vicinity of Simon-Dach-Straße and Boxhagener Platz. Peaceful green oases like the Volkspark Friedrichshain offer sports and recreation in leafy nature. The Spreeufer is lovely for walks along the riverside.Culture lovers enjoy this neighborhood because of various small exhibition spaces, venues, cinemas and the Berlin Kriminal Theater. Frankfurter Allee features various shopping facilities as well as the Ring-Center mall.

It was intended to be both a symbol of Communist power and of Berlin. It remains the latter today, as it is easily visible throughout the central and some suburban districts of Berlin. With its height of 368 metres (including antenna) it is the TALLEST structure in Germany, and the second-tallest structure in the European Union.
