Meat beers have given Burn ’Em a reputation for eccentricity, but that reputation shouldn’t come at the expense of a much more important fact: Burn ’Em makes very good beer.
Burn ’Em’s most popular beer is Kreamed Corn, an easy-drinking cream ale made with — you guessed it — Indiana creamed corn.

Windmill boasts a mellow, welcoming vibe; it’s a place for locals to congregate. Even its logo is down to earth: a simple image of a windmill that looks as if it could have been transported from the 1970s.
"We just wanted to be low-key and quiet and doing our best to make the best beer we can.”

Devil’s Trumpet has a solid core of beers — coffee stout, pale ale, farmhouse ale and, of course, multiple IPAs — and is focused on distribution in 12-ounce bottles.
“You want to manufacture what sells,” Carter said. “It’s what pays the bills and moves off the shelf. But there’s an underlying plan, and that’s a traditional Belgian approach; we’re introducing that style to local palates that may not be familiar with those types of beers.”

No matter what kind of mood I'm in, when someone says Mishkenut, I get a smile on my face and immediately start to salivate. Our restaurant of choice going on three years now, I have NEVER eaten a morsel I didn't like. And it's so fresh, leftovers are just as good the next day (which is the longest they've ever lasted in my fridge).
NOTE: The ambiance is non-existent. I recommend that you order it to go (give it a good half hour; it's all made fresh), and bring it back here to eat in my classroom!

With a menu that changes seasonally, Octave offers creative fare in a kitschy setting. Currently, the restaurant features cheese, wine, honey, and an ever-changing variety of fruits and vegetables from local growers and markets, including the Chesterton European Market.
Octave is known for its grass-fed beef which goes into specialty burgers, many topped with locally-sourced cheeses, such as Havarti from Fair Oaks Farms. You’ll find plenty of other options, including pulled pork and goat cheese fondue on the menu. They also serve beer from local breweries, and fresh desserts made in-house.
It's about 40 minutes east, so if you're doing the Chicago scene, this is out of the way.

I just found this great little cafe today and felt like I was back in Portland, OR or Asheville, NC (minus the mountains) or any college town. Great food, coffees and teas and the sandwiches and pastry are made on the premises. Check them out here: https://www.grindhouse.cafe/
