great views of Wellington, 4-6 hour walk best on fine days when it's not windy. stay on the ridgeline for amazing views to both Wellington and the West coast. Needs to be organised with transport to/from Johnsonville and Karori, as the walk is a one way hike. Best to probably start in Johnsoville, by catching the bus, and then hiking up towards Mt Kaukau and then catch a bus from Karori back into the city.

Oriental Bay
The beach in the city, great for a refreshing swim!
This is a walk to the local seal colony. Best time is in the colder months and probably something nicest to do over the middle of the day. Take a warm jacket and camera. It’s not a walk with any bush but it has fantastic ocean scenery and views to the South Island.

Fantastic little area of native bush amongst the suburbs of Wellington. Great bird life too. Probably easiest to get there by car although it is also on a bus route.
