A wonderful traditional Lakeland inn dating back to 1577. The food is locally sourced, for example beef and Herdwick lamb, which has been reared in the Lickle Valley. Vegetarian dishes and a children's menu available.

It is one of the oldest and longest narrow gauge railways in England, known affectionately as La’al Ratty meaning “ little railway “ in Cumbrian dialect. Fabulous for children. It runs from Ravenglass to Dalegarth for Boot, Eskdale. Great waterfall walk from Boot! You can book to take bikes on: cycle back along the track, and up and over the end of the fell (to avoid the road).

This neo-gothic house is not your typical National Trust property. There are free tours to find out about its varied history, and rooms are filled with all sorts for children to do: dressing up, castle-building spaces, perfect for a wet day in the Lakes! Outdoors there is a rope swing, den-building and trails, and a lovely walk down to and along the lake.

Accessed by small passenger ferry daily in the summer season from 11am-6pm from Roa Island, this small but fascinating island has a pub, a king and a castle! Good food at the pub - just don't sit on the throne unless you are happy to buy a drink for everyone in the pub...

Parks & Nature
There is an infinite amount of wonderful places to see. I like a walk up Caw (near the cottage): park at Stephenson Ground north west of Broughton Mills. Coniston Old Man (via Dow Crag) is also a favourite, also the Tilberthwaite Fells, and check out the unspoilt Duddon Valley for wild swimming spots
