Here you have a very large part of the Danish history: Think of the castle island as a landscape next time you're standing here. For Bishop Absalon placed in 1167 the very first Christiansborg here on the 'island' castle island, with water around, ready to resist attack. And ever since the Middle Ages has exactly this place has been the site Denmark controlled from - like today. Therefore she was called also time for Magtens island . The island's current name Slotsholmen comes from the castles and early castles that are, or have been, right here at Slotsholmen.
