A great day trip - head to Lauragh and explore Dereen Gardens. Head over the Healy Pass to Adrigole. Enjoy the scenic drive to the fishing port of Castletownbere and then take the road to Allihies village, passing by the Buddist centre with stunning cafe and prayer garden overlooking the Atlantic, and on to Allihies with its history of copper mining and small museum with cafe and gallery. The Allihies to Eyeries road is one of the most scenic in Ireland, then it is a straight road home on the R571 to Kenmare - unless you take a small detour at Kilcatherine to see the fabled Hag of Beara - the mythic pagan goddess turned early christian nun who was turned to stone to stand forever next to the Atlantic Ocean.
