A pleasant walk leading to Bowness. Turn left out of our drive down Lickbarrow Road. Walk for a couple of miles along the road - keep right when you reach a fork in the road. After a distance going down hill you will see a footpath on ypur right. That is the one to Brantfell. Keep walking upwards and you won't go wrong. From the view point walk down towards Bowness.
OR
You could start from the centre of Bowness, the most suitable landmark being the mini-roundabout right in the middle: you can't miss it. You quickly leave the shops and bustle behind, climbing steeply along Brantfell Road to reach the fields and fell above the town. This early part of the walk is part of the Dales Way which starts 81 miles away in Ilkley and finishes here. Turning off after a few hundred metres you visit the little viewpoint of Post Knott before turning your back on the views for a short bit to finish climbing to the top of Brant Fell itself. At the summit is a forlorn gateway with no fence or wall still in existence. The large outcrops of rock here have vertical faces of some 6 to 10 feet high so don't trip over the bits of old metalwork still rusting away.
allow a minimum of an hour, or perhaps a couple of hours so as not to hurry on this walk.

About 1 1/2 hours drive.
Wastwater is perhaps the most awe-inspiring of all the lakes. Surrounded by mountains, Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Scafell Pike – England’s highest mountain.
Situated in the Wasdale Valley, Wastwater is 3 miles long, half a mile wide and 260 feet deep, and the deepest of all the lakes.
Extending the length of the south-east side of the lake are the Screes, consisting of millions of fragments of broken rock and rising from the floor of the lake to a height of almost 2000 feet, giving the lake an ominous appearance.

Drinks & Nightlife
Several night clubs, pubs and restaurants. Busy at weekends especially in the Summer. 'Old Bowness' is a warren of quaint lanes, nooks and crannies dating from the Middle Ages yet only a few yards from the bustling heart of the town with its huge variety of shops, boats, 15thC church and attractions. During the 19th century, Bowness grew from a small fishing village to a town living almost entirely off tourism and holiday homes. It was the centre of the boat-building industry that provided the sailing yachts, rowing boats and steam launches used on the lake. The arrival of the railway in 1847 in Windermere (the residents of Bowness had opposed a station in their own town) provided much of the momentum for the growth. Readers of Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons series of books will recognise Bowness as the lakeside town of 'Rio'. Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to the Beatrix Potter attraction.
