Thai Samila

A wonderful local restaurant - one of our real favourites. Serves up tapas with a Swedish take., based on seasonal produce. Both indoor and outdoor seating (in summer), super friendly staff and seems to always fill up, even on a rainy Tuesday in winter. It's a good idea to book, but they'll always go out of their way to try to squeeze you in even if you arrive unannounced.

Hands down the best bread in Goteborg. Only takes cash, and the queue is often long to even get through the doors in the mornings - but oh is it worth it. Breads, croissants and pastries.
Closed Sundays.

Systembolaget is Sweden's chain of bottle shops, and the only place to buy full-strength alcoholic drinks to take away. This is our closest one. Mid-strength beers can be bought at supermarkets.

If you're after the best roof top bar serving good cocktails - you better head to the top floor of Bar Belora. Drenched in the evening sun, it's a renowned after work spot that keepd on going to the morning hours.

Jump on the ferry from Saltholmen heading out to Gothenburgs's Southern Archepilago. The islands of Köpstadsö, Brännö, Vrångö and Styrsö are absolutely beautiful. Old traditional buildings, walking paths (on most islands there are no cars, only mopeds and golf buggys are permitted). Take a long stroll and you will find friendly islanders, little beaches, cows and sheep, fish shops and cafes. To go on the ferries you only need a valid tram/bus ticket. You can use the same that took you to Saltholmen, or if you get to the ferry stop by bike or car, you can buy a ferry ticket at Saltholmen. Ferrys run from early to late.

Within about 20 mintues walk downhill and along the waters edge you will find a great urban art centre with a bustling restaurant and bar. Located just underneath the Älvsborgsbron (Älvsborg Bridge), a city landmark it hosts contemporary, collaborative art festivals and club sessions from morning to late nights, it's well worth a visit. Sunday brunch is brilliant.
