Food Scene
Exmouth Market is 5 mins walk at the bottom of Amwell Street (exit the gate, walk up to the square and turn left, the next street is Amwell street, turn left again and walk to the bottom of the hill). Exmouth market has many great restaurants and bars. Good for Breakfast are Gail's and Caravan. At lunchtime during the week there are a number of street vendors selling food which you can eat in the pocket-sized park known as Spa Fields which you can reach down a small passageway beside the church.
Also good are Santore for tradition pizza and Pizza Pilgrims and Panzo for a more modern twist pizza, Japanese (Necco) and Vietnamese Pho (Bun Cha). In the evenings the tapas at Morito are amazing

A couple of places of note are, the famous and original Ottolenghi - again reservations are difficult to get for dinner however lunch can be easier.

Drinks & Nightlife
There are many gastro pubs in the area my favourite being The Eagle on Farringdon Rd - just at the end of Exmouth Market. It is one of the first gastro pubs in London and serves Portuguese inspired pub food - delicious.

A more traditional and excellent gastro pub is The Easton slightly hidden just off Willmington Sq.

A good local pub, not serving food, is the Old China Hand on Rosebery Avenue - it serves only British beers and spirits

Sadlers Wells, at the end of Myddelton Passage hosts many national and international dance companies and quite often last minute tickets are available - a great bit of impromptu culture without having to travel far.

The Almeida theatre (Almeida St just off Upper Street) puts on super productions and for something a bit more 'off off' west end, the Arcola Theatre in Dalston (can be reached using the 38 bus) puts on amazing innovative productions.
