The Jagdhausalm nestle in a picturesque natural setting at 2009 metres altitude, at the end of the Defereggen valley. They comprise 15 stone houses and the Maria-Hilf chapel and are among the oldest alpine inns in Austria. 6 alpine inns, known in common parlance as "Schwaighöfe", have existed here since 1212. Since the settlement is located above the treeline and not much wood was available to build with, the buildings have been constructed almost totally from the stones which were in the area.

We want to be honest - Defereggen valley is a little bit “away” from it all. But not away in a geographic sense. Rather, it is far removed from what is standard and conventional. Anyone who comes here is not looking for mass tourism, or big parties. Anyone who comes here will find something quite different, more precious - perfect pistes, plenty of sun and family-friendly ski runs too. The ski area of St. Jakob in the Defereggen valley is not as big as the main ski areas, but it is manageable. There is almost nowhere else that you can enjoy more relaxed and better skiing than here. And Defereggen valley also offers some tasty treats, in all respects. On the one hand there is a really superb
