The place is a cooperative of several local families. While the men are fishermen, the women got organized and started this oyster farm as a business. The farm also includes a restaurant, el barco, in reference to the boat which got stranded there many years ago. The menu includes fresh oysters (couldn’t be any fresher), sting ray stew tacos, ceviche tostadas and quesadillas for those who do not eat sea food. Although they serve coke and beer, they do not mind if you bring your preferred beverage or even wine. The prices are very “local”, in other words, very reasonable. The drive is about 12 miles from town. The last stretch is on a sandy road but it is compact and you will not get stuck, you don’t need a four wheel drive vehicle to get there. A true off the beaten path place.
