This restaurant located in Ybor area is owned and operated by the same Tampa family that founded it five generations ago! The oldest restaurant in Florida, they've been owned by the same family since they opened in 1905. Beautifully hand-painted tiles and intricate fretwork decorate the exterior of the restaurant, while the interior boasts a two-story atrium. Warm lighting and a sense of history combine to create an elegant and relaxed atmosphere. The atmosphere is casual yet intimate, and the interior takes you back to old Spain. When you sit down, you are served a loaf of warm Cuban bread. You will also love the White Chocolate Bread Pudding which uses the same bread. Enjoy authentic Spanish cuisine, such as paella, black beans and rice or traditional Spanish yellow rice and chicken. Share a pitcher of sangria while flamenco dancers provide entertainment. Call ahead to verify nights and times for the show.(Flamenco and Spanish classical dance performances run nightly, except Sunday, with $8/person cover charge. And, a live jazz band is available from Tuesday-Saturday nights.) A must-order here is one of Spain’s most popular tapa, the Gambas Al Ajillo, which was breaming with flavours of olive oil and heaps of garlic. At Columbia Restaurant, the sangria is made tableside using their own wine, CR Generations Tempranillo, produced in honor of this restaurant’s 110th anniversary.

Built in 1891 as a stable for the then Henry B. Plant’s Tampa Bay Hotel (now the University of Tampa) right across the street, Oxford Exchange has it all: restaurant, coffee and tea bar, bookstore and home décor shop, and events and co-working space. Brother and sister team, Blake Casper and Allison Adams, restored this historic space and opened in September 24, 2012 so people can have a “place to belong”. Oxford Exchange is very popular for breakfast and brunch. Diners love their buttermilk pancakes which are tender, moist and fluffy. For coffee lovers, you’d be happy to know Oxford Exchange serves Buddy Brew Coffee, one of the oldest local coffee roasters in Tampa. In fact, there is a Buddy Brew Coffee Bar inside!

Neighborhoods

Ybor City is one of only two National Historic Landmark Districts in Florida. Founded in 1886 by Vicente Martinez-Ybor when he moved his cigar factory from Key West to Tampa, Ybor City holds a unique place in Florida’s social and economic history as our state’s “first industrial town.”It was populated by thousands of immigrants, mainly from Cuba, Spain, and Italy. For the next 50 years, workers in Ybor City's cigar factories rolled hundreds of millions of cigars annually. In the 1990s and early 2000s, a portion of the original neighborhood around 7th Avenue developed into a nightclub and entertainment district, and many old buildings were renovated for new uses. Since then, the area's economy has diversified with more offices and residences, and the population has shown notable growth for the first time in over half a century. Ybor City has been designated as a National Historic Landmark District, and several structures in the area are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 2008, 7th Avenue, Ybor City's main commercial thoroughfare, was recognized as one of the "10 Great Streets in America" by the American Planning Association. In 2010 Columbia Restaurant was named a "Top 50 All-American icon" by Nation's Restaurant News magazine. It is also the venue for a parade during Gasparilla.
