This is a lovely area to walk around and see the national monument with all its intricate detail. This was built to commemorate the independence of Sri Lanka from the British. Just close to it is the Arcade which is a shopping complex that has been beautifully renovated from the buildings that were the former Jawatta Lunatic Asylum and the former Western Provincial Council .
