Leaving Mytilene on the way to the airport following the road up towards “Kayani”, we come across the Temple of “Taksiarhes”, which conveys wonder and respect. The view here is breathtaking. The natural environment creates peace and serenity. Very near the church of “Taksiarhes” we find “Antonis”. An old café of the settlement, with its high balcony which gives the impression of a gallery, has been operating for three generation in a traditional environment. It is ideal for family moments or friendly company and has had devoted visitors for many years.

A modern day phenomenon is the developing Monastery of Agiou Raphael in Thermi. People come from all over Greece to the shrine of the Newly Sanctified Martyrs of Raphael, the Father Superior of the destroyed monastery, of Nikolas, the deacon, and the young Irene, all three of whom died as martyrs at the hands of the Turks in 1463. A miracle was responsible for the discovery of the bodies of the saints, by Angelos Rallis, who donated the land for the monastery. This monastery is constantly visited year-round by pilgrims searching for a miracle. The complex has rooms for overnight stays. There is a celebration here on the Tuesday after Easter.

The Statue of Liberty is located in Mytilene, in the Tsamakia area, and more specifically in the location where until 1922 was the Kastrili fortress. The creator is allegedly the sculptor Gregorios Zevgolis, while the drawing was edited by the Lesvian painter Georgios Iakovidis. The similarities with the "big brother" in New York are many: both are at the entrance to the harbor, they have oversized pedestals, they hold a torch with their right hand and are made of bronze. However, the impression that it is a copy of the New York Freedom Statue is incorrect. The inauguration of the statue took place in 1930.

The Byzantine Monastery of Ypsilou is dedicated to Agios (Saint) Ioannis Theologos and is located to the western part of Lesvos. Reaching the Monastery, the visitors are impressed from its architectural structure- it looks like a fortress- with battlements and a fortified tower. Throughout the centuries, in many cases, Monastery Ypsilou had to defend itself against invasions and offered shelter to the inhabitants of the area. There are no many records about the history of the monastery, however, probably during Lesvos’s occupation from Ottomans, it have been dilapidated.

This is Lesvos' oldest antiquity. Situated between Sigri and Eressos and on the shores of the small island of Nissiopi. Pieces of petrified wood and trees still standing cover a large area and the age of the forest has been estimated as twenty million years old. Apparently the trees had been preserved when they were covered by volcanic ash from nearby Mount Ordymnos.
