Theme Parks

Orlando is known for their world-renowned theme parks. From Walt Disney World to Universal Studios to Legoland, this section is all about the parks!
Of the 4 Disney parks in Florida, Magic Kingdom is the most iconic and classic park! Its got the most iconic rides, characters, entertainment, SNACKS! It’s my personal favorite park of Walt Disney World. From the moment you walk down Main Street USA and approach the Cinderella Castle, you’ll be immersed in the magic! Fly like Peter Pan and spin inside a teacup in Fantasyland! Take a boat ride through the jungle and go on a rollicking pirate adventure in Adventureland! Splash down into the briar patch and zip through mines in Frontierland! Visit 999 happy haunts at the mansion in Liberty Square and journey to the final frontier in Tomorrowland! Magic Kingdom will bring out the imagination in you!

Epcot, also known as Epcot Center, is the second park to open at Walt Disney World. This park is divided by two sections: Future World, which is like a permanent World’s Fair, and World Showcase, which is home to 11 different countries. With plenty of attractions, entertainment options, festivals and more, Epcot appeals to not only children, but teens and adults as well.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one of the most immersive parks on property! Animal lovers of all ages will absolutely adore the theming and all of the real animals that live in the park! Take a bus through the Kilimanjaro Safari to see the animals up close; you may even see some giraffes walk up to your bus! Thrill seekers will enjoy Expedition Everest; one of Disney’s most thrilling coasters taking place in the Himalayan mountains guarded by a ferocious yeti. For the paleontologists in your family, DinoLand USA is sure to please! Pandora is inspired by the universe of James Cameron’s “Avatar”, and features Animal Kingdom’s most popular ride, Flight of Passage! Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or MGM Studios as it was called years ago, is one of the most popular Disney parks currently! Fans of the Star Wars films will be enthralled when they visit Galaxy’s Edge, the all-new Star Wars inspired land featuring the incredible Rise of the Resistance attraction, as well as the Millennium Falcon ride! Toy Story Land is home to the Midway Mania ride, as well as the Slinky Dog Dash coaster and the Alien Swirling Saucers! Of course, we can’t forget about the park’s most iconic thrill rides Tower of Terror and Rockin’ Roller Coaster! If rides aren’t your thing, don’t worry! The park also has some of the most fun stage shows, nighttime shows and characters to see! Don’t miss Hollywood Studios on your trip!

Restaurants

Orlando has a TON of restaurants to choose from. Here are some of my recommendations!
The Boathouse, located in Disney Springs, is my favorite restaurant on property. The food is so good, and the service is top notch! The atmosphere and decor are 100% nautical, and if you get the chance to be seated out by the water, you can see the Amphicars sail by during your meal!

Do you love Tex-Mex cuisine? Look no further! Chuy’s has some of the tastiest Tex-Mex in Orlando! This location (as well as the one on International Drive if you’re ever down there) are worth checking out! They’ve got tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, chimichangas and more! Plus they have a pretty inclusive kid’s menu so they can have traditional American food or some Mexican if they’re more adventurous.

Beaches

Florida is known for their beautiful beaches! Central Florida isn’t near the coast, but here are a handful of beaches that are close by!
Coco Beach is about an hour and a half away from the Orlando/Kissimmee area. This little beach town in Florida has tons of areas to visit! From their several beaches, to the local businesses, to the massive Ron Jon surf shop, there’s something here for the whole family!

Local Attractions

There’s so many attractions in Orlando that aren’t the theme parks, I got to list them all here!
Madam Tussauds Wax Museum houses incredibly life-like wax figures of actors, athletes, past presidents, musicians, and historical figures! Best of all is that you can get right up next to them and even give them a super quick hug! This place has a plethora of options for fun photos, many of which in this entry are from my family’s visit. It’s a ton of fun! Check it out if you’re in the area!

Gatorland is one of those attractions that is so uniquely Florida! The Sunshine State is known for the abundance of alligators, and Gatorland is the place to see these bad boys up close and personal (without them actually hurting you). Gatorland also has other offerings like zip lines, a splash pad for kids, other animals to visit, off road adventures, gator shows, petting zoo and a Gatorland gift shop! You won’t find a place like Gatorland anywhere in the US but Florida!

Make Sure You Have Ponchos or Raincoats

Florida’s rainy season is in the summertime. Just about everyday during the summer there will always be a short rain shower or thunderstorm. When you’re at the parks it is especially important that you have ponchos with you, lest you want to be completely drenched at the parks. Purchase the ponchos at a Walmart or Publix; they’re way cheaper. Buying ponchos at the parks are going to cost more simply because you’re purchasing them in the park.

Park Tickets (Buy Online Ahead of Time)

Purchasing your park tickets online is not only cheaper than buying them in person, but it’s also more convenient so you can go straight into the park and not have to wait in line to purchase tickets.

The Disney Shortcut (applies to homes 10 minutes from parks)

If you’re staying at the Disney Dream Villa, Wyndham Palms Villa or Silver Palm Townhome, this is for you! There is a shortcut to get to the Disney parks that we personally use every time we visit. When you leave the resort and you’re headed down Formosa Gardens Blvd, turn right onto US 192. From there, you go to the stoplight that’s by the McDonald’s and CVS Pharmacy. At that light, turn right onto Sherberth Road. Follow that road all the way down until you get to the next light. At that light, turn right onto Osceola Parkway. Now from there, follow any of the signs that go to the parks.

Noise-Canceling Headsets For Any Kid

The parks are loud, especially the rides and some of the shows. Not every kid likes loud noise or handles it very well, especially if they have any sensory processing disorders. We highly recommend noise-canceling headsets. Your kids will still be able to hear, it just softens the blow of the noise so they’re not uncomfortable. You can find them on Amazon or any sporting goods store.

Wear Comfortable Walking Shoes

If you’re visiting the parks, it is absolutely essential to wear good walking shoes, especially if they’ve been broken into. Many people do not realize how much walking is involved in visiting the parks. Some days you will have walked as much as several miles in a day! (I know this because I’ve been there) Some sandals are fine too, but don’t even think about wearing high heels, dress flats, shoes with no support, or flip flops. I have seen kids wear Crocs and be comfortable too so long as they have socks on.

Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights

If you love horror movies and haunted mazes, this is for you! Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event that runs from select nights in September and October. This is the park’s most popular event of the year! Every year they have several highly immersive mazes, themed scare zones, fun stage shows, exclusive merchandise and specialty food and drinks! This even is not for the faint of heart: it’s recommended not to bring children or adults who are not as willing to endure the spookiness of it all. Tickets sell fast, so buy them ASAP!

From March until July, EPCOT hosts its Flower and Garden Festival! The whole park is adorned with larger than life topiaries of Disney’s beloved characters, as well as several flower gardens and displays throughout the park! Indulge in the several food and drink booths throughout World Showcase, visit the Butterfly Garden, check out the event exclusive merchandise, and rock out to the Garden Rocks concert!

EPCOT’s Garden Rocks Concert Series!

During Flower and Garden Festival at EPCOT, the park host’s the Garden Rocks Concert Series! Several different performers and bands will play three shows a night throughout the event’s runtime! Some of the groups we’ve seen include Rick Springfield, Kool and the Gang, A Flock of Seagulls, Plain White T’s, and more! The groups change every year so check out the latest list when available!
