The space
Centrally located to all things practical. You have your own private room, bath private entrance and private patio.
We have 2 bikes , beach chairs and beach towels all for your complimentary use and 2 fluffy bathrobes/slippers.
The room is situated with high speed internet, pillow top mattress, 100% cotton sheets with down comforter, ceiling fan along with heater and air conditioner.
Whole Foods and other supermarkets are both a five minute drive from our home. Venice Beach, Abbot Kinney and Santa Monica are 15 minutes by bike. The 405 and 10 freeway are a 10 minute drive from our home. We have been hosting on airbnb for over two years and love hosting people from all over the world. We are always happy to provide you with insider tips of places to visit.
Interaction with guests
Should you need an earlier or later check in time feel free to ask. We are usually able to be flexible if you let us know ahead of time. You are always welcome to leave your bags here till your flight departs.
It is our goal to make your visit as comfortable and effortless as you have imagined it to be.
Your room and bathroom are separated from our living area with a hallway and door and you have a private entrance (Keyless entry ) Although you will have no access to our kitchen, we've provided everything you'll need for cooking quick meals...a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, bbq... and you'll be able to enjoy your meal on our outdoor table. NOTE; there are 4 steps and a brick patio. If you have difficulty walking this might not be a great choice.
We love hosting our guests and are happy to provide lots of advice and recommendations. On the other hand, we really respect your privacy. . Our goal is that you have a great time visiting our home and the Los Angeles area.
The guest suite is located in a single-family house 2 miles from the beach in Santa Monica. It's quiet but close to the best cafes, restaurants, and things to do. A local park is 3 blocks away, along with a public golf course and tennis courts.
A 5 minute walk will take you to a bus #16 (to downtown Santa Monica/ beach/Marina del Rey) which hooks up to the metro to points beyond. Or, you can use our free bicycles! It's more convenient to have a car but the beach is only 3 miles away and there are buses and of course Uber!!
Things to See and Do in Los Angeles
Do you want fun in the sun??
--Bike to Venice Beach-Santa Monica Pier / Lunch “Back on the Beach” , a reasonably priced restaurant with tables right on the beach behind the Annenburg Community Beach Club on PCH.
---Have you ever tried stand up paddle board or kayak? Go the Marina del Rey if you want gentle water since it's in the channel and not the big, bad Pacific Ocean.
--- If you are more adventurous drive up Pacific Coast Highway to the Malibu Pier. There's a great surf shop there that rents EVERYTHING and has a wide variety of group lessons. Try to make reservations in advance (Check Groupon for discounts)
--- There is also a bike path that goes from Santa Monica south to Manhattan Beach..... lots of blondes playing volleyball and a great beach. It's about 30-60 minute drive depending on traffic.
Do you like people watching?
---Abbott Kinney Blvd. is "happenin" everyday and night. Music, food, coffee shops, bars and expensive shopping.
---there are farmer's markets almost everyday of the week with 3 miles.
Do you like the arts?
---There are two Getty Museums that are really fun to visit. The one on Pacific Coast Hwy in Pacific Palisades has ancient art/sculpture housed in an Italian villa that Hearst imported stone by stone! The modern Getty is in Westwood and has a phenomenal 360 view of LA, a decent cafe and interesting collections. For both these museums, you have to reserve PARKING.... or else do an uber.
---LA County Museum (near Hollywood and the LaBrea Tar Pits) has wonderful collections and traveling shows. From time to time they have jazz or salsa outside.
---Check out the schedule for the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theatre. If you check “GoldStar” you can sometimes get discounts.
Do you want to see “downtown Los Angeles”?
Take the bus to the metro all the way to downtown Hollywood or the Staples Center. I also like to wander around Olevero Street or the Grand Central Market. There are curated walking tours (haunted places in downtown LA for example.) World Class Dance, theatre, opera and symphonies at Disney Hall or the Dorothy Chandler .
Do you like to eat?
If you love Asian food....we can recommend many superb (and inexpensive) Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese etc. food. We've also put together a binder filled with the names of some of our favorite places to eat in Los angeles. There is nothing better than a picnic at the beach... the binder also have some recommendations for great take out places. Check out In-N-Out Burger. There are very few restaurants open after 10pm.... so if you think you'll want to eat late, do some research first.
Road Trips?
---Palm Springs and Joshua Tree is about a 3 hour drive. Great mid century architecture. Indian Nation gambling and shows (Morongo). Take the Aerial Tramway to get out of the heat
--- Santa Barbara is about a 2 hour drive …. great food, beaches, people watching.
--- Catalina; you can take a 1 day trip by power catamaran to Avalon. Lots of snorkeling, kayak, camping and snazzy places to stay too..
Or... you can just hang out on the patio and work on your suntan!!
Have fun!!
Barbara and Art.
