Tomnaverie Stone Circle
When King Phillip the 6th of Scotland/1st of England destroyed the Old Slains Castle which sits behind the house, the Earl of Erroll, who owned the castle, went to France for a time then returned shortly after and build New Slains Castle just 9 miles up the coast north of Cruden Bay. New Slains Castle grew over the centuries and was in use as late as the 1920's. The ruins are large and impressive.

Tolquhon Castle is for the most part a comfortable 16th century mansion with an earlier 15th century tower in one corner. Noted for its highly ornamented gatehouse, Tolquhon is one of the most picturesque of the castles in the Grampian countryside.

Tolquhon Castle is for the most part a comfortable 16th century mansion with an earlier 15th century tower in one corner. Noted for its highly ornamented gatehouse, Tolquhon is one of the most picturesque of the castles in the Grampian countryside.

Great swimming on sunny days. A small coffee and icecream shop sits above the harbour. The harbour is an exciting walk from the house. Walk up the driveway to the cattle gate. On the left is a sign and steps to the Coastal Path south. It's about a 20-30 minute walk along the cliffs to the harbour.
