Restaurants

Our absolute FAVORITE place to eat in Reykjavík. Their burgers are sustainable, so creative and insanely good, and they offer both vegeterian/vegan and meat. I really recommend the seasonal Special Burger.

Sumac is, in our opinion, the best fine dining in Reykjavík. They offer mouthwatering food from the Middle East, suitable for vegans, vegeterians, pescaterians and meat eaters. I recommend getting the 7 course menu. Just be sure to book a table in advance!

Do you love breakfast? We do too! Grái kötturinn (The Grey Cat) only has breakfast on their menu, and also has a generally cool and old fashioned vibe, which we absolutely adore.

A really cool place with a vison and oh so good plantbased food. Our go to when we need something heartwarming.

Flatey is a Naples-style sourdough pizza place and it has THE BEST pizzas in town. They have several places in Reykjavík but if you really want THE BEST, Hlemmur mathöll is the location to go to (trust us, we’ve tried them all).

Sightseeing

The garden behind the museum is a great place to have a picnic or sit down for a little reading or meditation. It's open to everyone and free of charge.

Klambratún is the biggest park in Reykjavík and offers varous recreations. There are beach volleyball, basketball, disc golf and football fields (just be sure to bring a ball/discs), a playground, a place to exercise, lots of very nice grass to sit or run around on, a grill (make sure to bring coal), benches to sit on and an art museum with a coffe house.

The Nordic House is probably our favorite library in Reykjavík, not because of the books (although they are nice too) but because of the light and airy feeling the architect - the Finnish Alvar Aalto - created there. It's worth a look if you're into cool houses.

This one is a bit far from downtown but is only a short busride away, and very much worth it if you like the atmosphere of the old times. It's our all-time favorite museum, we can't even count how many times we’ve been there.

Activities

Kramhúsið might be the coolest space in Reykjavík. A place to dance and pour your heart out in movement, a place to express those feelings and find your inner child. There are usually some drop in classes on the schedule, just check out their website or give them a call!

The best way to recharge is to take a jump into the (rather cold) Atlantic ocean at Ylströndin and then melt away in the hot tub and steam bath. It's free of charge during the summer time (15/05-15/08) and 740 isk during winter (16/08-14/05).

A very unique and small movie theater where you can get popcorn and wine while watching critically acclaimed and foreign movies. It has such a cool vibe and is definitely worth a visit if you don't mind taking risks with what you're watching.

If you're not into the whole jump in the ocean thing, Reykjavík's Swimming Pool is also a very nice place to recharge. They have an indoor and outdoor pool, a teeny tiny sauna and a very big steem bath, a cold bath and four different hot tubs.

This is absolutely amazing, although not for the very easily motion sick! We highly recommend it, even for those who have already traveled, or are planning on traveling, around the island.
