The "Serra da Lousã" is a magnificent mountain range located between the towns of Lousã by North and Castanheira da Pera by south. There are countless trails on both sides of the mountain slope, for example from the North starting at the Lousã castle you can head up the mountains through dense woodland and water canals which ultimately end up to a number of "schist villages". By starting at the romantic town of Coentral several trails lead up to the very top the mountain at Sto. Antonio das Neves/Trevim situated at an altitude of 1200m. Some of these trails run along the river "Ribeira das Quelhas" with its several divine ponds and waterfalls makes for a remarkable experience as the nature changes swiftly with every meter gained in altitude.

We offer a transportation service to the beaches listed below for a 5-30 € / trip. These are all within a 10-50 min car drive from the cottage. Our local river beach of Machuca is reachable by foot through amazingly beautiful and wild forest trails. We recommend combining your river beach experience with a visit to a schist village and perhaps some hiking to make a perfect day out. Also ask for a packed picnics to accompany you!

Arts & Culture
Conímbriga is one of the largest Roman settlements excavated in Portugal, and was classified as a National Monument in 1910. Conímbriga is essentially a walled urban settlement, encircled by a curtain of stone structures approximately 1,500 metres (4,900 ft) long. The settlement was built layer upon layer over the centuries by several diverse civilizations. It was first thought to be habited by the pagan tribe called the “Lusitanos” around II B.C. The Romanization of the town occurred around 139A.C and lasted around until the IV century. Recent excavations have now revealed human occupation during the iron and bronze periods (3200-600BC) making this one of the most ancient arqueologicalsites in the country.

We offer transportation to visit these magical villages. The following are located under a 15-50min drive from the cottage. Situated on mountain slopes the villages have organized hiking paths and mountain bike trails around the area which in many cases can be also combined with a refreshing visit to a river beach to enjoy your holiday to the fullest.
