A theatre for 'geisha' performances in the spring. The whole area is full of traditional tea houses.
Kamishichiken 上七軒 is the first and then the oldest geisha district in Kyoto. The teahouses (ochaya) are located on a paved street, you can see geiko and maiko there from 6 pm. The cabaret, kaburenjo, opens from the plum season, at the end of winter time. Kitano tenmangu shrine does also host maiko dancing every 25th of each month.
Kamishichiken 上七軒 is the oldest Geisha district of Kyoto, and still the most traditional of them (there are 5 of them in Kyoto, mainly close to Gion area). Here you can see some geiko and maiko going to their tea houses from 6 pm, without being bothered by many tourists.
