This cycle shop rents bikes for the day for around $40. A little hard to see, they are behind the construction barriers and below street level.

You can rent a bike here! They can also recommend some great biking paths, either along the river, in Riverside Park, or in Central Park.

If the idea of traveling underground via train or above ground via taxi/uber, isn't ideal you may want to consider this local shop for bike rentals.
