Important piece of Oregon history John McLoughlin, chief factor for the Hudson's Bay Company, was arguably the most important white man during the colonization of the Pacific Northwest. He established Fort Vancouver in 1825, which bought fur animals from both Native Americans and others. He also helped countless pioneers as they arrived in the Northwest and needing supplies to get them through the first winter. After retiring from the Bay, McLoughlin spent the last 11 years of his life at this home in Oregon City. The home was built in 1846 and it became a museum in 1910. It's listed as a national historic site
