Excellent resource regarding the Jurassic coast and otber local finds, 7 minutes walk .
A great place to study the work of Strata Smith, the first geologist who lived in Scarborough in Bar Street. This is a fantastic museum located at the bottom of Plantation Hill and Valley Road. Part of the area that has the Art Gallery at the top. Walk down to South beach or up the hill to the town centre, paths and gardens to explore and some of the Regency elegance is captured in this area

This is a small but very interesting geology museum. Opened in 1829, this unique circular building is one of the world's first purpose-built museums. The design of the building was suggested by William Smith, known as the father of English Geology. Full of fascinating objects, the Rotunda Museum is home to a unique Bronze Age man and the skeleton of a Plesiosaur found on the Yorkshire Coast. The building is an exhibit in itself - the interior, with its stunning trompe I'oeil ceiling and fascinating gallery, featuring a frieze showing the geology of the local coastline designed by Smith's nephew, John Phillips, is remarkable. Opening times Tues - Sun 10am - 5pm Closed Mondays Open Bank Holiday Mondays 01723 353665 Tip - £3 entrance fee gives you a year pass to the gallery and also the Art Gallery. Under 18's go free.
