Malham Tarn in a glacial lake near the village of Malham. It is one of only eight upland alkaline lakes in Europe.
Malham Tarn and Cove are world famous and can be easily accessed by car in about 20 minutes. You can climb the Cove if you have the skills and equipment or just watch the brave climbers ascend and descend the overhang.
There are numerous routes around Malham Tarn to suit all abilities. The views are stunning. Spring and Autumn are the best times to look for rare birds on passage - although rarities can turn up at any time. There are also a pair of resident peregrine falcons.
