If you are in Freeport or Portland this is definitely worth the side trip to the country! You can stop at The NG Village Store ( above) on your way and head down to the beach to sample the best ice cream I have ever tasted! And just down the road is The Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, ( posted in Museums) the world’s last active community of Shaker’s, where a museum and shop , plus public workshops are available.

This is the beach directly across the street and where you can access swimming. Day passes are about $3 to swim and $4 to launch a boat.
Great smaller swimming hole at Sabbathday Lake, with ice cream available from Bresca.
Family-owned beach on the northern shore of Sabbathday Lake. Two floating docks, a floating diving board, and a slide that sits offshore ensures tons of summertime fun. The beach has a highly recommended snack bar (see Bresca and the Honey Bee), picnic area, bathhouses and restrooms. (no lifeguard) Canoe, paddleboats, kayaks, and tubes available for rent. Open from Memorial Day through mid-September, small entry fee, cash only.
