4 miles: Portland Bill is located at the southernmost tip of the Isle of Portland. It is perhaps best known for its lighthouse, which is painted in distinctive red and white colours. The lighthouse is open to visitors and it is possible to climb the steep steps during a guided tour. There are a number of excellent walks from Portland Bill, which vary in length and difficulty. If you’re feeling energetic you can follow the circular cliff path and circumnavigate the whole island. For a more gentle stroll you can walk to Pulpit rock, a stunning rock formation perched high above the sea. Alternatively, you can head out past the beach huts to the historic cranes, which continue to be used to launch small crab and lobster boats from the cranes.
