Rome and Napoli/Pompeii are close enough for a one-day visit. Buy car or by train. Priverno-Fossanova is the closest train station with free parking. One hour to Roma Termini, one hour and a half to Napoli. The ticket to Rome costs only €5, but you must remember to validate it before embarking the train.
