Founded in the 8th century it weathered many tumultuous times, abbots, kings, and wars, until finally destroyed by the Spanish in during the 30-year war in 1621. This beautiful building featuring its world-renowned colorful sandstone façade, is one of the few well-preserved buildings from the Carolingian age and together with the adjacent museum, and early-medieval settlement recreation, well worth a visit and tour!
